Since more than half of New Yorkers don't own cars, escaping to drivable destinations can be a challenge. Of course, NYC is home to numerous car rental agencies, but what if you don't even have a driver's license? (Yes, I can think of two NYC friends who don't have a current license or know how to drive!) And then there are those last-minute excursions when you go to reserve a rental, and there aren't any available because all of your friends are leaving NYC too. Sigh....
