Although several of my favorite spots have closed over the years – such as Tin Lizzie, Molly Pitcher’s Ale House, Mustang, Swig, and Johnny Foxes – there’s still a handful of bars that I love going to during a nostalgic Second Avenue pub crawl.
Jack Russell’s, 1591 2nd Ave
Jack Russell’s is one of my favorite nearby spots for an impromptu first date or drinks with the girls. They have pool tables, video games, televisions everywhere (perfect for football season), and pretty solid pub grub.

Don’t expect anything fancy here. Brady’s is an old-school, no-frills type of place. I don’t even remember how my friends and I ended up coming here, but I think the affordable well drinks had something to do with it. I can’t do a Second Avenue pub crawl without stopping in for a round or two.
Sojourn, 244 E 79th St
Sojourn is definitely the most upscale on this list, with a modern, Downtown vibe and a beautiful interior. Their global menu features pasta, seafood, charcuterie platters, and many locals like to frequent this spot for brunch. For a night out, however, it’s nice to stop in for a glass of wine – something to class up the whole “pub crawl” thing, you know?

This pub is a neighborhood favorite, serving up classic English and Irish fare. The after-hours crowd at Doc Watson’s is quite mixed, and you never know who you’ll meet while sitting at the bar and enjoying drinks. On certain nights of the week, the pub features live music as well.
The Stumble Inn, 1454 2nd Ave
The Stumble Inn is a lively spot known for their beer pong tables, great drink specials, and stuffed burgers. While there’s no official dance floor, my friends and I always end up dancing to their music selection at some point in the evening, and nobody bats an eye. It’s a great atmosphere with one factor that I absolutely love – every month, Stumble Inn donates a portion of their profits to charity, and patrons can chime in with new charity suggestions throughout the year.

This laid-back Irish pub offers karaoke seven nights/week, making it a favorite watering hole for many Upper East Side locals. There’s also DJs and dancing, but don’t expect anything posh or “uppity” – Iggy’s is basically a Downtown dive bar.
Bounce Sporting Club, 1403 2nd Ave.
I used to come to Bounce weekly to help my friend host their pub quiz nights on Tuesdays, and it’s a great sports bar. Bounce attracts a more preppy crowd than most of the pubs on this list, with guys wearing khakis and button-downs, and first year residents who show up wearing their scrubs, trying to play up the whole “doctor” thing. But despite some of the more pretentious customers, the staff is friendly and it’s one of my favorite places Uptown to watch a ballgame.
