5 Reasons Why I Write

by Tracy Kaler                                                                                             SPONSORED
When my writing journey began more than four years ago, I had no long range plans, and didn't have any idea I'd be where I'd be in five years. At the time, this blog started as a place for me to share random thoughts about my life and adventures in New York City. Fast forward to 2015, and this blog has become much more.

After I changed careers was let go from a job I hated, I figured out that I truly enjoy writing, and that there's a whole world to explore, both in New York City and elsewhere. I realized that if I applied myself and put enough hours in, I might one day be a writer, and writing could become my gateway to living the fullest life possible.

When I think about why I write, a host of reasons come to mind, but here are five of the most significant.

1. I find writing challenging every single day.
There's no such thing as a perfect writer, and perfection is unattainable when crafting the written word. For this reason alone, being a writer will remain a challenge no matter how many years experience I have. And after putting butt to seat for a short few years, I hope to have many more in the future.

2. I connect with others in New York and around the globe.
I've been fortunate to connect with readers and other bloggers from all over the world. Writing puts me in touch with the cultures and experiences of others, and I consider it a blessing that I'm able to reach so many people. Thank you to every follower who reaches back by reading, commenting, and emailing.
3. Writing helps clear my head.
No matter what weighs heavy on my mind, writing (as does reading) helps keep life and all its madness in check.

4. I think more clearly and notice the tiniest details.
Because of writing, I am more aware –– I pay closer attention to what goes on around me. I observe more. I'm usually trying to come up with story ideas, or working an article in my mind before I sit down and write it. I try and jot a title down or a few notes so I won't forget when I've come up with a bright idea. These written thoughts get my creative writing juices flowing. One of my favorite pens for handwriting over the years has been a Uni-ball. I started using Uni-balls long before I used a keyboard, and I still think it's one of the best pens for writing.

5. I appreciate life in unfound ways.
Because of all the above, writing has enabled me to appreciate life and all it offers. Whether I'm wandering around New York, working at home, or experiencing life outside the city, I have learned to appreciate so much more than I'd ever imagined, and it's all because of writing.
